What is Bio-Energy?
Most people think a lot of Bio-energy actually is just all wind, solar, and hydro etc, but bio-energy is mostly biomass which comes from living organisms that can be renewed. As shown below Biomass accounts for 50% of all renewable being used around the world while the others like solar, wind, geothermal and hydro account for the other fifty percent. Biomass is no joke even though it is the oldest source of renewable energy, nobody knew about it since the last couple years, in fact if it wasn't for biomass renewable energy or bio energy (any way you prefer to say it) wouldn't be so popular and on a up rise today to be the main source of electrical energy almost every country wants that is so ecologically friendly.
More people should learn and know about biomass because it is such a big part of our bio-energy lives today.
What is Biomass
Biomass is actually the oldest source of renewable energy dating all the way back to when our ancestors first learned how to make fire. A definition of biomass is "Biomass is biological material derived from living, or recently living organisms. In the context of biomass for energy this is often used to mean plant based material, but biomass can equally apply to both animal and vegetable derived material."(www.biomassenergycentre.org.uk). So biomass is an energy stored in a living object that we can convert to useful energy or electrical energy.
Biomass in Canada
Canada as a lot of forests of living trees, plants and other stored energies therefore we have a lot of biomass potential that we can use to heat our homes, cook our meals and everything else. There are a couple problems though that can stop us from utilizing all this biomass in our forests, first of all is that if we use a lot of these trees for biomass purposes that won’t be to many left for pulp and paper, timber etc. The second problem is the destruction of too many habitats and wildlife, over the years Canada as already cut down and destroyed a lot of wildlife in the forests so we have to be careful what we will be left with. Therefore even if we have a lot of sources for biomass we have to be careful how and when we use it, hopefully the Canadian Government will have patience and good judgement.
